2 Choppers Circle Maltman Hills Looking for Car Thief

Silver Lake residents endured another noisy night on July 5 as Rampart and Central division officers looked in vain for a teen who may have hit an officer.

The Maltman Hills south of Sunset Boulevard in Silver Lake endured another noisy night--just one night after the an evening of illicit Fourth of July fireworks kept everyone on edge.

This time it was LAPD choppers that stole the show, with two of them at one point circling above the area near Lucille, Marathon, and Tularosa just near Bellevue Park.

Patrol cars helped set up a permimeter as choppers and canines worked to flush out a teen who had reportedly stolen a car and then ditched it nearby.

One officer on the scene told Echo Park-Silver Lake Patch that he had also struck an LAPD Sergeant as he ran off, perhaps explaining the multiple cop cars, choppers and lockdown.

The officer said the suspect was wearing a hoodie and black shorts.

The search began just after 10 p.m. and ignited a firestorm of comment by locals on Twitter, who feared another long night.

According to a Rampart Division officer, the search was called off just after midnight, with no suspect in custody.
