Teen Suspect Arrested in Echo Park Burglaries

The youth told police he was part of a crew working Echo Park and Silver Lake of late.

Rampart police arrested a youth Monday who admitted to breaking into at least three Echo Park homes this past month.

Rampart detective Mario Mota told the EastsiderLA that the young man is part of a burglary crew working Echo Park and Silver Lake.

The youth said he helped hit a home just west of Elysian Park and two others near Laveta Terrace and Sunset in Echo Park proper.

Mota told Echo Park-Silver Lake Patch recently that burglaries just south of Sunset Boulevard have remained extremely low over the last few years, with crews heading further north and into Echo Park instead.

He said that's because the crews don't like working their own neighborhoods, preferring to head to others instead.

He also said some arrests made a few years ago helped stop what had been a string of burglaries in the Maltman Hills area.
