Sunset Junction Memorial to Children Killed at Sandy Hook Elementary Is a Mystery

Neighbors say the memorial popped up Friday night, and soon after was featured on television. But no one seems to know exactly how it got there or who is keeping it going.

I saw this tonight in Silverlake [sic] where Santa Monica Blvd dead ends into Sunset at the Sunset Junction. I thought it was a very touching memorial for the children lost at Sandy Hook.

Jennifer told us in an email that she'd first seen the memorial on television Friday night, just after 20 children and six adults died in a mass shooting in Newtown, CT.

But she had no idea who put it there.

We went over to check it out at  the intersection of Sanborn Avenue, Santa Monica and Sunset boulevards Tuesday.

When we first drove by, just before dusk, there was someone literally standing in the road praying at the shrine.

We decided to ask around at neighboring businesses, hoping to find out more.

Employees at Jiffy Lube, Intelligentsia, Clementime and Cafe Stella could not tell us how the memorial got there.

Several said they'd seen mourners there as recently as Monday night lighting candles.

TELL US: Have you noticed the memorial to the children of Sandy Hook Elementary? Do you know who put it there?
