According to a posting on local listserv, a number of young men in their 20s and 30s were seen Tuesday walking in the Silver Lake hills, looking into the windows of homes and apartment buildings.
According to the posting some walked through apartment courtyards, "pretending to be interested in moving in while peering through doors."
One man was also overheard commenting on the presence of a big screen TV in one unit.
Neighbors called Northeast division officers and one of the men was apparently stopped.
Later a van carrying some of the same men was spotted on Sunset Boulevard near the Sunset Triangle Plaza.
According to the posting, an LAPD officer said young men recently released from prison are often recruited to go into neighborhoods for such missions.
With the hot weather and open doors and windows, says the posting, it's time to be very careful--and to report suspicious activity.
