Shooting on North Coronado Street Wednesday Afternoon Shuts Down Traffic

According an officer on the scene, one young man was taken to the hospital with injuries.

Police lines blocked off access to North  Coronado Street late Wednesday afternoon between Bellevue Avenue and Temple Street.

Officers were interviewing witnesses who might have seen what led to the shooting of one young man around 3:30 p.m.

According to an officer on the scene, he was taken to the hospital after police and fire fighters arrived.

Edwin Palencio, who lives at the intersection of Coronado and Bellevue Aveuue, told Echo Park Patch he saw several young men sitting on the stoop of a white building in the 400 block of North Coronado as  he walked north under the 101 Freeway.

Just after entering his home at the corner of Bellevue and Coronado, he heard shots and ran outside, eventually going back down to  the Coronado Market on Temple.

Witnesses there told Palencio that the shots may have been fired at close range by someone riding a bicycle.
