Rolling Stones Shake Up Saturday Night in Echo Park [Photos]

The greatest rock and roll band in the world brings celebrities and heightened security to the 1800 block of Sunset Boulevard for a last-minute show.

ECHO PARK, CA -- The greatest rock and roll band in the world came to Echo Park Saturday and much of the show happened outside the venue.

Streets and restaurants around the Echoplex were crawling with security, medics, and media trucks, as well as people who both did and did not get into the Rollings Stones' surprise appearance.

Paparazzi and fans gathered on Glendale Boulevard at the VIP entrance caught Gwen Stefani, Bruce Willis, Johnny Depp, Skrillex, Mark Harmon, James Woods and others who leaped out of limos to check in there.

Regular folks who had won entry wristbands lined up along Sunset Boulevard in the special barriers set up to handle the crowd.

Those who somehow still hoped to get tickets formed their own line too, though security eventually encouraged them to leave.

They settled in nearby restaurants like Two Boots pizza, monitoring Facebook page, YouTube and Instagram for video and images from the show.

Local residents were among them, including design student Andrea Gonzalez, who had lived her whole life in Echo Park and said she'd never seen anything like this here.

Was it good for the neighborhood she had seen change so much already?

"Absolutely," she said. "It's the Rolling Stones."

Check back at the site for more about the show. Enjoy the pictures in the above gallery and share your own.

just my opinion, but the Beatles don't even compare
Frank Toner April 28, 2013 at 08:05 PM
Can't compare the Beatles and Stones two great bands with completely different styles and both are the best.
SusanM April 28, 2013 at 09:02 PM
I'm guessing about 300 years of musical experience among 4 members of The Stones"
kb April 28, 2013 at 09:19 PM
Mick Jagger....smart guy.....didn't want Steve Marriott in the Stones cause he knew Steve would blow him off the stage....
Helene April 28, 2013 at 09:45 PM
The Stones rule! What band has lasted that long, and still going strong.
Donzo April 28, 2013 at 10:16 PM

Great band, but getting OOOOOLD. Seriously. They play OK, but Come ON. They need to rethink the live performance thing, and put out a classic blues rock album. That hopefully won't suck like the last ones.
Tracy Cervellone CWE April 28, 2013 at 11:21 PM
I have seen them 5 times since 1978. Each time, weaker and weaker. Last show was a joke. Never again. I did see Mick Jagger at the Beverly Hills Hotel, smoking a cigarette. He looked like a mummy. Keith must look like a 30's horror flick. Sheesh,

E street band is a good band. The lead singer, Bruce Springsteen is an ardent obama lover... that makes this band suck, their music aside . Anyone who likes/loves the ass-white in the White House is a total DUMB ASS.

Comparing the Beatles and the Stones anytime after 1970 is silly. The Beatles stopped touring in '67, for gawd's sake, and they were "rock n roll" only to the extent that they played Chuck Berry and Little Richard covers. The Beatles were a pop group which matured in several very good experimental directions (and quite a few bad ones), while the Stones became the archetype for a genre that persisted another 30 years. Mick and the boys still do stadium rock better than anyone, make more money than anyone, and remain relevant in ways most newer groups never have been. I wonder how many dates Maroon 5 or Bruno Mars or ... anyone else... could sell out when asking $400 - $4,500 a ticket? Oh, and take a look at their songbook: Mick and Keith penned at least an eighth, maybe even a sixth of the 100 greatest rock songs of all time. Not one or two, but over a dozen mega-hits that are part of the global human consciousness. (OK, a little carried away, but, sheesh, "Satisfaction," "You Can't Always Get What You Want," "Midnight Rambler," "SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL," "Jumping Jack Flash," "BROWN SUGAR," "Miss You," "Start Me Up".......They have no peer.)

well they picked the right street to do it on
Colleen April 29, 2013 at 08:38 AM
Lucky for them the Beatles don't tour anymore? I'm sorry "D" but your comment falls very short on reality! Just Sayin...The Beatles don't tour anymore because they only were the Beatles for less than 10years, they broke up, then John Lennon was Murdered, and George Harrison died of cancer. Those events happened in the 80's for John and the 90s for George. So,just sayin get the story right and you'd maybe have a comment to stand on! And besides, you can't compare the two. You can't compare the Stones to the Beatles or vice versa, or them both to the Kinks or the Who or anyone else, the only thing they have in common was timing. The Stones are the Greatest they have endured never broke up never stopped touring they have had their moments but they have stayed together because like Keith says, it's bigger then the boys themselves, it's some kinda magic. So that is that. Long Live the WORLDS GREATEST ROCK N ROLL BAND!! THANK YOU ROLLING STONES!! WE LOVE YOU!!!
Colleen April 29, 2013 at 08:47 AM
Umm no and when and why would you even think that Steve Marriott would even be in the Stones? To replace Mick Taylor? Nope... Look Mick Jagger is MICK JAGGER he doesn't have to be insecure about anyone on stage Mick is beyond the best at what he does! And Thank GOD he still does it! There will Never be another Rolling Stones, never be another Mick N Keith, Never be anything in music ever again such as the ROLLING STONES! No band or front man could ever take their place!! xoxLOVE YOU STONES!!! See you guys on May 25! and June 6th in Toronto! Can't Wait! Philly too!!!
Colleen April 29, 2013 at 09:23 AM
WOW! Apparently you haven't even listened to the last 6 albums they have put out. Because if you had listened you'd know they are awesome. Its sad that some people are so stuck in one era that they can't even explore other musical tastes that is the Beauty of the Rolling Stones! They can get into any musical genre and do it perfectly!! That is what makes them Great! They do funk, country, blues and Rock, soul, ballads they do it all and whatever they do they do it perfectly. And they aren't getting OLD.... YOU are getting OLD!! Cause if you think they are too old to Rock N ROLL then you don't really know the meaning of Rock n Roll now do ya? I don't hear you telling Paul McCartney to stop playin? Or Eric Clapton? Carlos Santana I don't hear people say they should stop and they are just around the same age! So if you are too old to Rock that's too bad for you but as far as I'm concerned and as far as Real Rock N Rollers are concerned, we LOVE IT! And As long as they Play it we will Keep Showing UP!!! ROLL ON ROLLING STONES!! WE LOVE YOU!!!! XOX
Colleen April 29, 2013 at 09:59 AM
RIght ON WILLIAM NIVER!!! Love your comment and don't forget, the Stones Satisfaction was chosen as Rock n Roll song of the 20th Century. Up against Elvis and the Beatles, although I'm not sure which songs they were using for them, but either way they didn't win THE STONES DID!! YEAH! SO now we go into the 21st Century still listening to the Stones and enjoying them as they continue to Play and entertain us, and still put out records! I LOVE THEM!! They are the very best! xox

Where would music be today without the R-Stones AND the Beatles...It's all good !...Stones are amazing in time. Beatles broke so many barriers to creativity !...yup.
Pearl Cawley April 29, 2013 at 12:28 PM
this is in reply to Colleen who spelled out that two Beatles have passed on. I think "D" knows all of that, because the world knows all of that. I think she was just saying that if it were possible for The Beatles to tour, they would out do the stones. Yes, the Beatles were together only 10 years. 10 years that impact into today, with no touring and 2 dead. They have sold more records than the Stones who have stayed together ALWAYS attempting to catch up to what the Beatles accomplishment. They were number 2 when the Beatles were together and they remain number 2 with The Beatles not existing. You have to remember, the Stones gave themselves the moniker of "the greatest rock and roll band in the world." Michael Jackson also dubbed himself "king of pop." The Beatles are so royal, they NEVER had to laud themselves. The Beatles sit on both the rock and pop thrones.

This is a night people will still be telling their kids about in 20 years ... those people who were there, and those who have kids.
