LAPD Chase Down Santa Monica Boulevard Ends in Crash

Police first noticed a stolen vehicle near Sunset Junction in Silver Lake early Thursday morning.

Yet another stolen vehicle sparked police action early Thursday in Silver Lake.

According to Rampart's Facebook page, officers on patrol observed a vehicle driving erratically at about 2:45 a.m. near the intersection of Sunset and Santa Monica boulevards.

They did a license plate check and discovered the car was stolen.

The driver led them on a short chase west on Santa Monica Boulevard, beyond Normandie to Mariposa Avenue.

There the car crashed into a chain link fence, and the driver was taken into custody and arrested.

Grand Theft Auto remains a problem in both the Rampart and Northeast divisions, where freeway access makes theft easy.

Just this past weekend, the driver of a stolen car and four passengers were apprehended after a chase in Echo Park.
