LAPD Rampart Meeting on 'Use of Force' Happens Quietly

It was held Sept. 12, the day after Rampart officers allegedly shot back at a murder suspect near Downtown L.A. after a car chase.

Andrea Sheradin Ordin, president of the Los Angeles Police Commission, was among those who attended the community meeting on police use of force last Wednesday at the Rampart Station headquarters on Sixth Street.

The meeting was one ordered by LAPD head Charlie Beck to respond to several incidents across LAPD jurisdiction involving police "use of force."

It was chaired by Rampart captain Steve Ruiz and organized through his office.

It is not known whether the meeting was scheduled before the Sept. 11 capture of murder suspect Ian Schlesinger at Seventh and Bixel streets where police "use of force" was broadcast live on television.

According to one source, approximately two dozen people attended the meeting, which was not posted on the Rampart Facebook page.

Echo Park-Silver Lake Patch has been unable to confirm whether any media were in attendance and has also been trying to obtain a copy of the agenda.

According to Cpt. Ruiz's office at Rampart, another meeting is being planned for mid-October.

Rampart is also hosting a Lead Officers Summit on Oct. 18 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Rampart Headquarters on Sixth Street.

A meeting organized by the LAPD's Northeast Division was also attended by about two dozen.
