A man was wounded Tuesday morning in an officer-involved shooting in the Echo Park section of Los Angeles, police said.
No officers were injured in the shooting, which happened around 12:20 a.m. in the area of Sunset Boulevard and Echo Park Avenue, said Sgt. Herb Chang of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Station.
The shooting happened while officers were responding to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon involving shots fired, Chang said.
The suspect was taken to County-USC Medical Center for treatment.
His condition was not immediately reported. Police did not immediately say if a weapon was recovered.
According to KTLA, police were in the area responding to several reports about shots being fired.
The location of the shooting is in the same block where Trader Joe's employee Michael David was shot by gang members in 2011, and is near an area that has long been a hot spot for gang unit officers.
