LAPD Launches App as Recruitment Tool for Cadets

The Los Angeles Police Department's first smartphone app for the public is a recruitment tool for its cadet program, it was announced Tuesday.

The app gives details on how to join the cadet program and points app users to the nearest cadet post. The app also features news relevant to cadets, highlights cadet achievements and lists links to tutoring and college resources.

The cadet program is based on the Explorer program and teaches life and leadership skills to youth under 20-years-old. Since it was created, the cadet ranks have grown from 457 to 4,600 people, according to the Los Angeles Police Foundation.

The app, which was designed by an LAPD officer, was unveiled at the Los Angeles Police Commission meeting. It can be downloaded to Android phones and iPhones.
