UPDATE: Dodger Beating Suspect's Daughter Defends Him, Attorneys to Seek More Evidence

At a Friday press conference, the daughter of the suspect in the beating of Bryan Stow came to the defense of her father.

Giovanni Ramirez was not at Dodger Stadium on Opening Day, says his 9-year-old daughter; that's the day of the brutal beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow. Instead, the daughter told the media that Ramirez was with her and her aunt on March 31, according to press reports.

The daughter of the suspect in the beating of Stow spoke to various media outlets Friday evening after talking to investigators for the first time on Thursday night, according to ABC7. The daughter, who is in fourth-grade, did not want to be ID'd, nor did her mother, according to the report.

"It think it's not my dad, and I pretty much know it's not him," the girl told reporters, according to the Los Angeles Times. "I am sad because he's in jail."

According to the both the Times and ABC7, Ramirez's attorneys, Anthony Brooklier and Jose Romero, are expected to ask a judge on Monday for an order to obtain/preserve evidence and video from cameras at or near the places where Ramirez claims to have been on March 31.

The Times reports that Brooklier said in a motion that Ramirez and his girlfriend stayed at a Comfort Inn on Vermont Avenue near the 101 Freeway on April 1—the day after the beating. He also said video from the hotel and from a nearby gas station could show that Ramirez had a noticeable head of hair. The suspect in Stow's beating was described by witnesses and is depicted in police sketches as being bald.

A parole commissioner decided Friday morning that while there's not enough evidence to hold Giovanni Ramirez in jail and charge him for the savage beating of Stow, Ramirez should nevertheless remain behind bars on suspected parole violations.

Ramirez met with parole officials for a hearing, according to the Associated Press and other media outlets. The hearing examined whether Ramirez violated terms of his parole.

City News Service reports that Ramirez's defense attorney said the parole commissioner at the hearing found no reason to hold him in connection with the opening-day beating of Stow.

Ramirez hasn't been charged with Stow's beating, but he has been behind bars since his May 22 arrest on suspicion of violating his parole.

According to City News, defense attorney J. Christopher Smith said the commissioner found "no probable cause to hold Giovanni Ramirez for
the assault with great bodily injury allegation,'' but found there were grounds
to hold him on other allegations.

Anthony Brooklier, one of Ramirez's attorneys, also noted that the defense team has learned that the person who attacked Stow apparently left a palm print on the hood of a car in the parking lot. Ramirez's defense team is expected to meet with a judge today to obtain more evidence that their client was not at Dodger Stadium when Stow was beaten.

A parole-revocation hearing is scheduled for June 20.
