Update: Silver Lake House Fire Started in Kitchen (Photos)

The blaze was reported at 4:38 p.m. Tuesday and was out in 12 minutes. Firefighters on the scene say it was confined to the first-floor kitchen area.

Three dozen firefighters worked quickly Tuesday afternoon to take down a fire in a two-story wood home at the border of Echo Park and Silver Lake.

According to Captain Armando Valencia of Los Angeles City Fire Station 20, the blaze at  886 N. La Fayette Park Place started in the kitchen.

He was not sure about the cause but he said the owner may have left a pot on the stove.

According to City News Service, the fire was reported at 4:38 p.m. and was knocked down in 12 minutes by more than three dozen firefighters

The home is believed to be the site of a famous 1922 murder, involving the wife of an apron manufacturer and her lover.

The lover lived in the attic of the house--unbeknownst to the woman's husband.

One day, as the couple fought, the lover came down and killed the husband.

Neither the home's second story--including, presumably, the attic--nor the back house were damaged.
