UPDATED: Elementary School Lockdown Lifted; Suspect Released

Sgt. Maibe of LAPD's Rampart Division confirms that police were sweeping the area for a weapon, but none was found.

UPDATED: The lockdown was lifted at 10:15 a.m., according to L.A. Unified School district spokeswoman Lauren Mendoza. Police questioned a man who matched the description of the reportedly armed suspect, but no weapon was found and he was released.

"He was questioned, but we found no gun on him, and there was no evidence that he had one," said Sgt. Michael Maibe of LAPD's Rampart Division. "We searched the area and found no evidence, so [the suspect] was released."

EARLIER: is on lockdown after police received a morning call that an armed man was in the area, according to Sgt. Michael Maibe of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division.

Maibe also said that a suspect has been taken into custody but no weapon was found, so the school is still on lockdown while the police search for the weapon. No other information on the suspect was available.

A woman who answered the phone at the school declined to give her name, but said that the school is doing what they can to let parents know what's going on, but also stressed to them that the lines be kept clear for safety reasons.
