Little Joy has brought a lot of joy to many Echo Parquenos over the years.
The bar that spawned a namesake band and a lot of other cultural references closed earlier this year after guiding Echo Park through much of its underground period.
We knew a makeover was coming, thanks to Echo Park resident Joaquin Reyna-Donaldson, who had helped run the bar down the street at the Echo for years.
He's teamed up with Donald Andes, who will run the business side.
Now, via a statement from the owners themselves we learn that the bar will be reopening April 1.
We also get details about the new look: a new oak bar, a stripped down brick interior, a DJ booth.
According to the release, "the building’s original brick and broken plaster has been uncovered along with a number of authentic details that highlight the location's previous lives as a 1920s auto body shop, a mid-century pharmacy and ultimately, a bar beginning in the early ‘60s."
Microbrews are naturally on tap and we're wondering if whiskey will be a specialty too.
We're just glad the corner at Portia will be bright again, with the pool table still in place and Dodger Stadium just a short walk away.
