Echo Park: Explosive Garage Fire Destroys Two Cars

No injuries were reported in the hillside blaze in Elysian Heights near Dodger Stadium.

A garage fire that started with big bang and destroyed two cars in Echo Park's Elysian Heights is being investigated.

No one was hurt in the fire reported at 9:48 p.m. Saturday in the 1800 block of North Lucretia Avenue, and firefighters put out the blaze in 21 minutes, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.

A man and woman were home at the time and heard a blast, he said. "The man opened the garage door and noted an inferno,'' he said.

The man, a woman and a dog got out the house, and firefighters were able to confine the fire to garage, which shared an attic with the house, he said.

Damage was estimated to be more than $50,000.
