Crime Alert Issued For Echo Park

Four violent crimes between May 11 and May 17 have put Echo Park on alert, according to data from the Los Angeles Times and Crimemapping.com.

The data does not include Sunday's fatal stabbing of  young man who has reportedly lived in the area for decades, according to a posting on our Facebook page.

These four incidents included an aggravated assault on May 12 in the early evening near Glendale Boulevard and Colton Avenue.

That gang-related incident had local residents on edge for several hours as police put the area on lockdown seeking the subject, according to a Rampart crime map for that day.

No one was brought into custody, according to Rampart.

Other violent crimes in Echo Park included a robbery on May 14 at 1:55 a.m. on May 14, an aggravated assault on May 16 at 2 a.m. at Montana Street and Echo Park, and an aggravated assault on May 16 at 5:45 a.m.

Alerts are issued when the total number of violent crimes exceeds the six month average, which for this time has been 1.7 incidents.
