Car Wash for David 'Dizzy' Martinez Is A Success

Friends are calling Saturday's car wash fundraiser held in Echo Park Saturday to raise monies for David "Dizzy" Martinez a success.

Several asked by Echo Park-Silver Lake Patch would hazard no estimate of exactly how many cars were washed at El Centro del Pueblo Saturday morning.

But according to one, "But it looked like they were pretty busy washing cars."

Gina Benavidez, the common-law wife of Martinez, is expected to announce a date for a funeral shortly.

According to the source, "that would probably be another opportunity to donate to the family."

Martinez was shot by police on March 19 at the corner of Echo Park Avenue and Sunset Boulevard.  Cellphone video obtained by KTLA showed Martinez reaching into his pocket for something, but the LAPD later issued a statement that they had "initiated contact."  The LAPD initiated an investigation into the incident but no further information has been released.
