Bomb Squad Visits Echo Park

A section of Allesandro Street is sealed off as officers examine a suitcase with a mysterious message.

The Los Angeles Police Department bomb squad had to blow the locks off a mysterious suitcase Thursday night in Echo Park.

The explosion happened in the 2200 block of Allesandro Street around 9:30 p.m. after investigators failed to identify the contents via X-ray, according to a Northeast division officer quoted by the Eastsider.

They had good reason to be cautious. The suitcase had a message on it saying anyone who tried to open it would be killed.

Nothing suspicious was found inside, but stretch of street between Whitemore Avenue and Oak Glen Place remained sealed off for several hours, according to the Eastsider report.
