Body Discovered in Bathtub After House Fire

A small house was consumed in the blaze in Glassell Park early Tuesday.

The coroner is investigating the death of a 33-year-old man found Tuesday morning in a bathtub.

Los Angeles City firefighters discovered the man after putting out a blaze in the rear house at 3844 Aguilar Street in Glassell Park.

The hillside property is located near the northern edge of Forest Lawn cemetary.

The fire had also spread to the carport and eventually spread to another residence to the east, according to the LAFD blog. It did not reach the front house.

The man did not appear to try to escape and, according to the LAFD blog:

It was not immediately known if there were functional smoke alarms. There were no window bars, security doors, or obvious non-fire factors to impede the victim from exiting the home. The residence was not equipped with residential fire sprinklers.

According to KTLA, the still-unidentified man had lived in the 464-square-foot back house for about three years.

He had told neighbors he would soon move to Chico to start a business.
