A big rig headed south on the Golden State (5) Freeway near Elysian Park crashed through the center divider and caught fire Tuesday morning, prompting the closure of all lanes in both directions, a California Highway Patrol Officer said.
The crash just south of the Glendale (2) Freeway was reported at 3:16 a.m., said CHP Officer Francisco Villalobos.
Northbound traffic was diverted from the freeway at Stadium Way and southbound traffic was diverted onto the Glendale Freeway, Villalobos said.
The driver was not injured, according to reports from the scene.
The big rig's trailer was empty, the CHP reported.
A heavy duty tow truck arrived at the scene to haul the tractor trailer away and Caltrans crews worked to reopen the freeway.
