Authorities Release ID of Man Killed in Echo Park In Apparent Gang-Related Drive-By

John Alvarado, 35, of Los Angeles died at a hospital, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

Authorities today identified a man who was killed in Echo Park in what police said was an apparent gang-related drive-by shooting.

The shooting in the 900 block of North Alvarado Street was reported at 2:45 a.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Melvin Gamble of the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Station.

"The victim was a ... gang member shot five times in the chest and legs," Gamble said.

No description was released of the suspect. The vehicle used in the crime was described only as a red four-door car. No arrests were reported.
