Sunday brunchers on patios along Sunset Boulevard near Sunset Junction had a surprise when a car rear-ended another, touching off a chain reaction.
A total of five vehicles were involved in the pile-up, which began just east of Sanborn Avenue in the inner westbound lane.
The trouble began when the driver of a blue Passat slammed on the brakes, rear-ending a white vehicle.
Three other vehicles banged up behind him.
The Los Angeles Police Department's Central Traffic Division received the call at 12:06 p.m.
According to Central Traffic police on the scene, Los Angeles City Fire Department paramedics transported a woman to the hospital after she banged her head on the windshield.
The officers there expected her to have suffered minor injuries.
Most of the vehicles involved were able to pull off the road and park along the north side of Sunset Boulevard to talk with police and among themselves.
The white car, however, remained in traffic until about 1:15 p.m., when it was removed on a flatbed truck.
No information was available about what caused the driver of the Passat to slam on his brakes.
