Summer at the Silver Lake Library

Summer Reading Clubs are a great way to encourage reading for pleasure for all ages. Find out what your local branch library is doing to help keep everyone reading this season.

Summer time is approaching quickly and the staff of the Silver Lake Library is putting the finishing touches on a variety of programs to please all ages.  The summer is traditionally the season when the public library encourages children to read for pleasure to help stave off the loss of skills that students suffer over the long break from classes.  We usually use bribes- yes, you heard me- bribes- like prizes for reading a certain number of books.  But we also have a lot of activities lined up, such as music, art, cooking, and dance.  It all starts on Monday, June 11, when registration opens for the city wide Summer Reading Clubs.  At Silver Lake, we are even adding an adult component to the reading game (bribes for adults- what can that be?).  To stay up to date on library happenings, check out the event calendar on the Los Angeles Public Library's website (www.lapl.org), like the Silver Lake Branch on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter (@silverlakeLAPL).

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
