Social Media and the Silver Lake Library

The Silver Lake Library uses social media, like Facebook, Twitter and the Echo Park Silver Lake Patch blog, to reach out to local residents and tell the Library's story.

The Silver Lake Library is the newest branch of the Los Angeles Public Library, having opened in 2009.  It is certified as a gold level LEED eco-friendly building, with solar panels on the roof that generate electricity, and a design that allows for natural lighting.  It also has new gadgets, such as self check machines and an automatic return machine that uses RFID technology, as well as a Smartphone app for finding and then checking out your own materials.  So it only makes sense that the branch's staff is now using email, Facebook, Twitter, and blogging to reach out to the community and advertise its wares.  What are those wares?  We still have books (the paper kind and ebooks), DVDs (and evideos), magazines (and online databases), and music (and emusic).  Every week there is something going on: a music concert, a storytime, a computer class, a meet the author event, or a Friends of the Library meeting.  You can even learn how to blog (Wednesday, June 6 at 11am the Patch's own Anthea will be showing us the ropes)!  More to follow.
