Local Runner Wins Firecracker 10K in Elysian Park [Photos, Video]

Jacqueline Juarez, who trains out of A Runner's Circle on Los Feliz Boulevard, won the women's race.

More than 8,000 people hit the roads around Dodger Stadium and Elysian Park Sunday for the 35th Annual Firecracker Run.

The event featured a kid's 1K, as well as women's and men's 5K and 10K walk/runs and a 20/30K bike ride.

Athletes came from as far as Ontario and Carson. They seemed undaunted by the hilly terrain, which took some runners up from Chinatown to Elysian Park around Dodger Stadium and back.

And they had one winner.

Jacqueline Juarez trains with other runners who meet at the store to run in Griffith Park.

She took first place in the women's 10K with a time of 41 minutes and 34 seconds.

Juarez also told us she finished 20th in last year's L.A. Marathon. She  won't be running this year, though she plans to train for several half marathons this season.

You can join her--at least in spirit.

A Runner's Circle is the meeting place for a number of training runs every week, including a 6 p.m. Thursday run and another Saturday at 9 a.m.

Everyone is welcome.

Runner's Circle is also a co-sponsor of the Second Annual L.A. River Fun Run coming May 5.
