"This collection of paintings is not called High Humidity for no reason. 100% humidity without raining is not uncommon in my hometown of New Orleans.
Each picture here has a connection to the city. Bourbon Street. Jayne Mansfield. Lee Harvey Oswald. Carlos Marcello. Professor Longhair. Ernie K-Doe. Sugarboy Crawford. Bobby Blue Bland. Earl Palmer. Lee Allen. Lily Christine. Pimps. Sex.
Even the Cadillac Ranch was inspired by the Cadillacs driven by Fats Domino and Guitar Slim. These are things that are always on my mind…and now on canvas." – Hudson Marquez
Hudson Marquez is one of the fathers of modern installation art as a founding member of the Ant Farm Art Collective.
At Ant Farm, Marquez was the driving force behind the iconic Cadillac Ranch sculpture in Amarillo, Texas. He was also instrumental in Ant Farm's public performances, museum exhibitions, inflatable structures, architectural commissions, illustration work, and videos.
Mr. Marquez left the collective to co-found TVTV, the seminal "guerilla television" group that is considered to be the ground breaking pioneer of non-fiction television.
TVTV was the recipient of many accolades including the prestigious Columbia Dupont Award, for excellence in television journalism. As member of TVTV, Mr. Marquez was voted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame.
High Humidity is Hudson's fifth exhibition for Billy Shire.
