Created Equal - Slavery by Another Name Film Screening

After the Civil War, Southern black men faced arrest and discriminatory sentencing for minor crimes like vagrancy. They would then be leased to private parties and forced to work in harsh conditions in farming, logging, mining, and other industries, filling the demand for labor that followed the abolition of slavery. This lasted until WWII.

Slavery By Another Name

In June and July the Edendale Branch Library will be screening the documentary Slavery by Another Name. On Saturday July 19 at 2:00pm, we will host a discussion of the film and take a look at race and the criminal justice system today. 

The panel will feature the following special guests:

Joshua Mitchell PhD Student, Dept. of American Studies and Ethnicity, University of Southern California and 

Elizabeth Kronbeck Professor of Ethnic Studies, History and Social Science, Glendale Community College
