Patch Blog: Student Letter to Save Adult Education

A letter from Gerson Cervantes, a pre-high school student from Argentina at Evans Community Adult School asking Assemblymember Gil Cedillo to support adult education.

ASSAMBLYMEMBER GIL CEDILLO

Probably this letter never will be read, but I hope someday and someone can read it.

We are in a difficult moment for Adult Education.

I think it is a big mistake to close schools for adults. Closing schools is like closing the opportunities for thousands of people here in Los Angeles. For one minute, watch the situation. Closing schools for adults is the easy way to create chaos and more unemployment. Maybe you guys can save a couple millions but for how long?  Six months or a year? The adult school is important for many things, such as:

1)      Learning English we can get a better job.

2)      Learning English we can communicate better with our children and help them in their school activities.

3)      Learning English we can help make this country more prosperous.

I understand that there are many people involved in this decision. Before making the final decision those in charge should ask themselves.

Who loses more with this decision:

Thousand of people whose need adult education or all The United States? Just think for one minute.

Help us to keep adult education. For sure, sooner or later, we’ll pay back this big favor.

Thank you.
