Tire Tracks Tread on Neighbor's Nerves

Residents upset over damage to new street surface.

The resurfacing of the Angelino Heights end of Sunset Boulevard has dispersed nuggets of black top and trails of tar as far into Echo Park as Rosemont, but residents along the 700 block of East Kensington Road have more to deal with: nobby tracks.

After a recent resurfacing, residents were instructed to not drive on the road.  Apparently, as is shown by a long set of tire tread marks running from the driveway of a home on the 700 block of East Kensington Road all the way to Marion Avenue, someone didn't listen.

Accroding to resident Lowell Goodman, people are not pleased with the tracks, which he says are hard to drive on in addition to being an eyesore.

"Neighbors have complained,"  Goodman said.  "Several called street services on the day the incident happened."

A representative from the Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services Resurfacing Plant explained that while the damage to the new surface is unfortunate, "once resurfaced, normally we don't go back to do it again."

Goodman also noted that he spoke to a street services worker who claimed that the tracks could be considered vandalism and the perpetrator may face fines and prosecution.  However, street services could not confirm this, and the Los Angeles Police Department also did not have information on whether vandlism charges would apply.

The LAPD referred Patch to the city attorney's office, which has not returned calls for information.  Additionally, street services suggested it would be best for neighbors to contact city council representative Eric Garcetti regarding the matter.
