Summer Reading Club will Soon Kick Off at the Cypress Park Library

The program this year offers arts and crafts and a visit with reptiles.

The Cypress Park Library is preparing to launch this year's summer reading club.

The kids' reading club is designed for infants and children up to 11 years old. This year's program will tie into the California library system’s summer reading club theme of "reading is so delicious," said Children's Librarian Alicia Rodriguez.

"For every amount of time they read, they get an incentive," Rodriguez said.

The club will take place on Tuesdays beginning on June 11. One of this summer's highlights will be an afternoon spending time with snakes, turtles and lizards, thanks to "The Reptile Family," according to Rodriguez.

"That's a really popular group," Rodriguez said.

Children will also have a chance to participate in arts and crafts and learn important lessons about nutrition by making food pyramids out of actual food, according to Rodriguez.

Parents are encouraged to sign their children up as soon as possible by visiting the library at 1150 Cypress Ave.

The library will also offer a summer program for teenagers. To find out more information about this year's summer reading club, call (323)224-0039.
