'Make Music L.A.' Prepares for Second Annual Celebration

It’s time to make music L.A!

The second annual “Make Music Los Angeles,” or MMLA, event is just weeks away, and venues in both Hollywood and Silver Lake will be participating.

The free festival consists of simultaneous concerts being held on the same day, June 21, the first day of the summer and the longest day of the year.

The event is the brainchild of Dorsay Dujon, who first read of the festival taking place in New York a few years ago. She thought bringing it to Southern California would be a perfect fit for the area given the fact Los Angeles is such an entertainment hub, she said.

"It just seemed like such a natural event for us to have, and everyone in the entire county can participate," said Dujon, founder and executive director of MMLA. "It takes in the diversity of our city."

Musicians will have the opportunity to perform at a variety of venues from downtown to the Sunset Triangle Plaza, the Silver Lake Branch Library and Ripley’s Believe It or Not, among others.

Dujon said she hopes everyone, including adults and children, will take advantage of the offerings.

"A lot of people who live in our city don’t really have an opportunity to hear live music," Dujon said.

More than 70 concerts were performed around the city last year, according to Dujon. She hopes that, similar to the first one, this year's musical event will bring people together from all over Los Angeles County.

"It’s really something that people do embrace," Dujon said. "It’s wonderful, and we hope every year it continues to grow."

"Make Music Los Angeles" is scheduled to take place on Friday, June 21.
There will also be a kickoff concert the day before at 11 a.m. at downtown City Hall.
