Sunday marked nine years since the still-unresolved passing of low-fi legend Elliott Smith.
It also marked the restoration of a mural honoring the singer-songwriter's work and his time in Echo Park.
The mural, based on the cover art from Smith's Figure 8 album, is painted on the side of Solutions Audio Video Repair in Los Angeles.
(Click through to see the very clever way the shop uses the image in its logo and website.)
It had attracted the usual graffiti and wear and tear of urban artwork.
Now. thanks to DIY community group called the Punk Rock Marthas, the black, red and white swirls have been repainted and enhanced.
Hear Anji Williams of the Marthas explain the complete restoration in the above video.
Punk Rock Marthas hosted a dedication at the wall Sunday that was blogged around the world.
A new documentary about Smith's life, Heaven Adores You, is also in the works.
The project more than met its goal in a recent Kickstarter campaign.
