Recap: Echo Parenting & Education Gala With Amy Brenneman

Dressed for celebration, a crowd turned out to celebrate the annual Echo Parenting & Education gala Saturday night.

Dressed for celebration, the crowd gathered at Natural Curiousities in the historic Jensen building on Sunset Boulevard Saturday night for the annual Echo Parenting & Education gala.

An eclectic mix of parents, celebrities, politicians and key community figures turned out to support this local nonprofit, which has transformed the lives of so many families in our community since it first started offering parenting classes and support groups out of the Methodist church on Alvarado and Reservoir.

Amy Brenneman, the actress known for her roles in Judging Amy and NYPD Blue, and a longtime supporter of Echo Parenting, led the evening's program, which included the inaugural Echo Parenting honors.

Awards were given to high school teacher Travis Miller (a participant in the Echo teacher training) for his transformational work in the classroom, and Lynn Kersey of Maternal and Child Health Access for her long dedication to prenatal and early child health.

Former Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg made a passionate appeal to support the crucial work of this organization, which focuses on parenting but also trains professionals in optimal child development and empathetic care. 

The evening concluded with dancing and merriment (especially on the part of those who won the fabulous raffle prizes) to the music of DJ Señor Amor.
