Alliance Charter Wants to be the 9th High School Serving Echo Park

Alliance College Ready Charter High School will be asking the Greater Echo Park Elysian Neighborhood Council for its endorsement to build a 500+ seat high school at Beverly and Rockwood.  The request will take place at the council's meeting on Tuesday, Sept 24 at 7:00 at the Sandra Cisnernos Charter School on Mohawk Ave.
Endorsing this request would send Alliance on the road to building what would be the 9th high school in the community, ALL of which are currently significantly under enrolled.  They are Belmont High, Roybal Learning Center, Contreras Learning Center, Cortines Visual and Performing Arts High School, Downtown Business Magnets High School, Camino Nuevo Charter High School at Beverly and Temple, Camino Nuevo Charter High School at 3rd and Bixel, and an LAUSD community continuation high school.
Although declaring themselves "public" because of being funded by taxes, federal courts, state courts, the US Census Bureau and the National Labor Relations Board have declared charter schools as non-public entities.  But as they divert monies  that would go to public schools, such as those in the Belmont zone, they ensure that our children still enrolled in those public schools receive less and less resources.
Do we need the 9th high school in the neighborhood that further drains resources from our grossly underfunded public education system?  Come to the meeting on Sept, 24 and support true public education.
