What Should Replace Tang's Donuts?

A local donut shop that recently shuttered might not be mostly rembered for its edible offerings, but for more of its weirdly contributions to Sunset Boulevard.

Tang's Donut, which also sold sandwiches and was the forum for many chess matches, at Sunset near Fountain Avenue is no longer in business.

Yelp reviewers have shared some nostalgia, including Ninja R., who wrote: "During the day, it's just a donut shop where teenagers hang out after school. By night, it's a haven for all sorts of weirdos. Hookers, pimps, crack addicts, crack dealers, chess players, hobos and hipsters. Nothing horrible really happens. Just a gathering of many varieties; chilling, sharing stories, eating donuts/sandwiches, and playing chess."

Besides the memories, all that's left is a vacant spot and a for lease sign.

What do you think should replace Tang's Donuts? Another donut shop? Or is that intersection in need of another type of business?

What this intersection doesn't need is a "business" that will bring more pretentious, phony, wanna be somebody douche bags to our neighborhood spending daddy's or their husband's money. Silver Lake has already turned into a pathetic TV set because of the little trendy wanna be musicians with no original thought to save their lives. Enough already with the continuous loser parade of nobodies searching desperately to be cool. What they should put there is a Toll Booth charging anyone that doesn't live here $50.00 for a 2 hour visit. By the way, Silver Lake is 2 words posers! ~TVSL (True Voice of Silver Lake)

Nothing will replace Tang's, it was a true Silver Lake treasure. It's horrible that the owners of this mall more than doubled their rent to get them out. I'm thinking of sending a letter to tell them what a mistake they've made. I hope it stays empty for years, the owners are greedy pigs.

What a shame. Although I never stopped in I got a warm feeling passing by with all the guys hanging out playing chess and shooting the shit.
