At least until the arrival of Storefront Deli, which has opened on a stretch of Hollywood Boulevard in Los Feliz.
According to the L.A. Weekly's "Squid Ink," co-owners Chris Phelps and Zak Walters have studied hard--taking the best of traditional delis and freshening it up with their knowledge of contemporary cooking:

For those who grew up frequenting the local deli -- whether it was Italian, Jewish or otherwise -- Storefront is an absolutely delightful throwback, enhanced by Phelps' and Walters' commitment to making just about everything in-house.
Squid Ink tried the smoked sablefish, the cheeseburger and the corned beef and liked them all.
