New Echo Park 7-Eleven Opens on Glendale Boulevard

The store opens Thursday at 1550 N. Glendale Blvd. after much negotiation.

The doors officially opened Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at the long-contested—and long-awaited—7-Eleven on Glendale Boulevard.

The store is open 24 hours a day.

It does not sell beer or wine, but it does have the usual assortment of sandwiches and hot 7-Eleven foods, including mini tacos.

It is one of at least six 7-Elevens in the Echo Park-Silver Lake area.

Jennifer Casillas, who attended Logan Elementary School and still lives in Echo Park, is one of the employees working there.

She and the other employees received their training at a "very busy" 7-Eleven last week.

Compared to that, they said, business has been a little slow, but they are confident that will change as word gets out.

During the store's permitting process, nearby residents worried about the noise and traffic that alcohol sales could bring.

Others had concerns that the store would not create local jobs.
