According to the Times, their involvement also secures funding for any transaction, a possible edge in the bidding.

Frank McCourt recently agreed to put the team up for sale, after resolving a dispute with Major League Baseball over the sale of media rights.

McCourt has said of any new owner, "It's somebody who is a huge baseball fan, who loves this community and is willing to commit to this community and bring everything they have to it. "

McCourt would make the final decision in any sale, where other potential buyers include Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, L.A. developer Rick Caruso and former owner Pete O'Malley.
