Erewhon Eyeing 'Natural Mind' Location in Silver Lake

Erewhon's president Tony Antoci confirmed Tuesday that he's been trying to rent the 6,500-square-foot-space, but the landlord won't budge.

Some of us remember when it used to be a video store. Now it's Natural Mind Beauty Salon.

And if Tony Antoci, president of Erewhon Natural Foods, had his way, 3607 W. Sunset Blvd. would be a natural food and products market.

Antoci says he's been trying for a while now for a deal on the space, which has "For Lease" signs visibly posted.

At 6,500-square-feet, he adds, it's a little small for a market, which usually requires 13,000-square feet.

But he says the company has a plan for putting a cafe and tonic bar there--along with top-selling items--that could work.

Antoci says he's been tryin to working something out with the landlord, who apparently has not been very flexible.

The current tenant Natural Mind salon doesn't seem to worried about losing their space, if that's any indication.

Echo Park and Silver Lake residents, of course, have been craving another natural foods option since Nature Mart handed off to Lassen's this fall.

Erewhon has been looking in the Silver Lake-Echo Park area for a while, and, says, Antoci would be delighted to hear of any new leads.

Erewhon has been had another location in the mid-Wilshire area since the 1970s, and is currently based at the Grove on Beverly.

Meantime, the area outside the space is shaping up into a pedstrian plaza, that will continue to host the Silver Lake Farmers' Market twice a week.
