Echo Park, Silver Lake Host Alternative Festivals This Weekend

Echo Park Rising, No Function Junction and the Conjunxion Music Festival are all in the mix after the Sunset Junction Street Fair was cancelled earlier this week.

We knew it would not be a quiet weekend.

Just days after the Sunset Junction Street Fair was cancelled, alternative events have popped up in Silver Lake, Echo Park and Historic Filipinotown.

Topping the list is Echo Park Rising, a two-day community coming-together of stores, restaurants and venues that keeps growing and growing. It’s anchored by performances from many of the bands and DJs marooned by Sunset Junction cancellations.

Venues include , and . Bars and restaurants like , ,  and are offering discounted drinks and free snacks. is having a sidewalk sale.

Down the street, in Silver Lake, merchants seem to have recovered as well. They’ve declared a slightly looser No Function Junction, anchored by six hours of music at Dangerbird Records’ headquarters.

Featured bands include Useless Keys, Vanaprasta, The Fling and more. Vacation Vinyl is also hosting DJs tonight and a record release party for the band Men and Milk on Sunday. Restaurant and merchants are also geting into the act.

Finally, a new event space opens on Beverly Boulevard as the Bar and it’s hosting two days of music and DJs.  Proprietor Anthony Craig Giancola had scheduled his “Conjunxion Music Festival” and opening to time with the Junction Festival. With the latter gone, he’s picked up a lot of new artists to launch his space.
