Dwell on Design returned to Los Angeles Friday. The conference and exhibition programming continues Saturday June 22nd from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday June 23 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are over 350 exhibitors on the show floor and over 70 presentations on three separate stages.
While much of the attention is on the home, a popular event happens curbside. The Green Car Ride and Drive Saturday gives attendees the opportunity to test drive a wide selection of low carbon footprint vehicles.
Included this year are the Infiniti’s M Hybrid, Chevy Volt electric car, Fisker Karma, the Acura ILX Hybrid, the CODA , Audi A3 e-tron, Ford Focus Electric, Mercedes-Benz F-Cell hydrogen vehicle, VW Touareg hybrid and the VW Passat running on biodiesel.

Two very different cars caught our attention because of their Southern California connection. The CODA was designed in Los Angeles, and the Fisker Karma was designed in Anaheim. We decided to take them for a spin.
First up the CODA. The all-electric car has a BorgWarner eGearDrive single-speed transmission that delivers high efficiency, high torque capacity, great for negotiating the steep hills of Echo Park.
It retails around $37,000. This compact takes off fast, has responsive handling and a range of up to 125 miles.
Fisker enters the market for the first time this year at a slightly higher price point. Their Karma model retails just under $100,000. The design is amazing.
The roof is covered by the largest solar glass roof ever designed for a production vehicle. It powers all the accesories. The Karma is a heavier car with a gorgeous body style and great handling. For tall folks who want to drive a sports car without contorting into a pretzel,this is a dream.
Attendees can test drive these cars from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Line up early and think of all the time you'll be saving not driving to all the different dealerships.
