Hall of Fame Dodger broadcaster Jaime Jarrín,“the Spanish Voice of the Dodgers,” will return to Dodger Stadium in 2013.
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Friday he signed another 3-year contract to broadcast most regular games and 8 pre-season games--as well as any post-season games--through 2015.
“I am honored to extend my career during such a thrilling time in Dodger history and under new ownership that has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Latinos in Los Angeles and in revitalizing the Dodgers throughout Latin America,” Jarrín said in a statement.
The team initiated Major League Baseball's first Spanish-language broadcast in 1958.
Jarrin immigrated from Ecuador in 1955, and began calling Dodger games in 1959.
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and is in the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
According to the Dodgers, 40 percent of the team's fans are Latinos.
“Jaime is a Dodger institution and is a big reason why the Dodgers have such a strong Latino fan base,” said co-owner Magic Johnson in a statement.
