American Apparel's Signature Sign Promos Giant Sale

Just doors down from American Apparel's Echo Park store, the new billboard touts a sale with dire discounts. What's in store now for the Echo Park inspired retailer?

store just off Alvarado Street on Sunset Boulevard wasn't the clothing giant's first location.

That was in Montreal.

But it too opened in 2003,  and  it is considered the firm's flagship retail location.

Indeed founder Dov Charney watches over it from his historic mansion just up the hill in the gated Hathaway Estates.

And just a few doors up Sunset from the store is a billboard.

It has been occupied by the company's sometimes controversial imagery since most Echo Parquenos can remember.

This week there are no scantily-clad nubiles there.

The billboard's touting a 10-day flea market at the firm's factory downtown in big block letters.

This isn't the first blow-sale at American Apparel's downtown headquarters.

But this time discounts are up to 90 percent.
