I-5 Freeway Connector Closure Planned Saturday

All lanes on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway connector to the southbound Glendale (2) Freeway will be closed for 12 hours Saturday for repairs to damage sustained in a fiery tanker crash last week.
The connector will be closed from 3 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Patrick Chandler of Caltrans said Friday.

Detours will be posted, and the closures planned for Saturday are subject to change.
"The intense heat from the tanker fire caused extensive damage to the pavement, walls, support structures, drainage, and lighting within the northbound SR-2/northbound I-5 connector tunnel," Chandler said.

The tanker crash and subsequent fire occurred Saturday. The driver, who was hauling about 8,500 gallons of fuel in the truck, escaped with minor injuries.
