This Week in Live Music

Live music picks for the week in and around the Eastside.

Thursday: If your attending Filter magazine's Culture Collide Festival this weekend, take advantage of your wristband at : Liam Finn, Rainbow Arabia, Guineafowl and Handshakes. Downstairs at the Echoplex (also part of the festival) it's Lindstrom, Cosmic Kids, Midnight Surfer, Bixel Boys, Tropicool and Surf Ambassador Hnedo (doors 7:00pm). At your writband gets you entry to The Morning After Girls, Buck 65 and Disco Boom.

Eight bucks gets you in the door at The Satellite for eastside indie rock vets The Happy Hollows with Incan Abraham,The Soft Hands and One Trick Pony. Singer-singwriter Patrick Park performs at the Bootleg Theater. Head to the Greek Theatre in Los Feliz if you're a Deadhead...it's Further Fest (featuring Phil Lesh & Bob Weir).

Friday: Two legends take the stage Friday night at the Greek: Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson. Seriously, legends. Former Los Angeles residents The Parson Red Heads return to LA from their Portland home gigging at The Satellite in support of Viva Voce. Yacht, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, The Morning After Girls, The Gift and Hands take the stage at the Echoplex (as part of Culture Collide Festival). Upstairs (for twelve bucks) it's a really tight bill with Cymbals Eat Guitars, Hooray For Earth and LA Sera. Long Beach's Avi Buffalo perfoms with the Postelles and others at 1815 Sunset (as part of Culture Collide Festival).

Saturday: Megafaun returns to LA at The Satellite. Aquarium Drunkard (my blog) presents. In support is Doug Paisley, whose record Constant Companion was one of the finest singer-songwriter driven LPs of 2010. Megafaun are presently touring in support of their most ambitious album to date, the self-titled Megafaun, out last month via Home Tapes. Rock 'n rollers The Henry Clay People perform (as part of Culture Collide Festival) with TS & the Past Haunts, Little Hurricane and Incan Abraham at 1712 Sunset. The always fun CSS (Cansei de Ser Sexy) and Young Liars perform at the Echoplex (as part of Culture Collide Festival). Isobel Campbell (formerly of Belle & Sebastian) and You Say France along with I Whistle perform at (Culture Collide Fest). The Elected and Carina Round take the stage at the (Culture Collide Fest).

Sunday: Culture Collide Block Party: CSS, Avi Buffalo, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, MEN, Gang Gang Dance, Datarock, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, Chad Vangaalen perform at Reservoir Street (Free w/ RSVP).
