This Week in Live Music

Live music picks for the week in and around the Eastside.

Wednesday - $53 gets you in the door to see Iggy and the Stooges at the Hollywood Palladium. Nuff said. Over at ye olde Bootleg Theater on Beverly Boulevard Latebirds gig with Brian Whelan's post Broken West project Wheelhouse aong with Miracle Parade. Low End Theory takes place on its usual night over at The Airliner, and

And for something completely different, head over to the Hollywood Bowl for Quincy Jones featuring the Global Gumbo All-Stars. The legendary Q, in a rare concert appearance, plans to pull from his six-decade career plus a tribute to Michael Jackson.

Thursday - Strap on your seatbelt ladies and gentleman, as the rock show is descending upon L.A. at . All the way from England comes The Jim Jones Revue -- a serious dose of maximum R&B fueled rock and roll that has been burning up clubs around the globe the past few years. The live show is somethin akin to Little richard -- had he grown up on punk rock and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion instead of Doo Wop. This outfit smokes. TRMRS and Death Hymn #9 support.

Saturday - At the Greek Theatre folky troubadour Ray Lamontagne takes the stage with the Pariah Dogs, Brandi Carlisle and Vusi Mahlasela in tow. I can't speak to the the supporting bands, but in terms of the hushed, mellow, folk sound (that burned brightly for a bit during the past decade) Lamontagne is one of the more commercially successful of the bunch, and not without cause. His debut LP, Trouble, was/is especially strong.

Get your local indie rock on with L.A.'s own Superhumanoids at the Bootleg Theatrer w/ Pollyn and Hot As Sun.

Sunday - The National, Neko Case and Sharon Van Etten perform at the Hollywood Bowl. Nice cross-section of contemporay 'NPR-alternative' music in 2011. A smart booking for the Bowl, I've seen all three of these artists live, on multiple occasions, and each is well worth checking out in their own right. Should be a good night at a good price. Be sure to get there in tim for Van Etten....she's great.

If your wanting to keep it in the neighborhood, and on the early side, Davila 666, Cheap Time and Fidlar play at The Echo for an early show (5pm) for $12.
