MCA Day at Nomad Art Collective Celebrates Beastie Boy Adam Yauch

The gallery hosts an evening to remember Yauch, who died of salivary gland cancer one year ago Saturday, and lived and worked in Los Feliz and Atwater for a time with his bandmates.

Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, who died on May 4, 2012  of salivary gland cancer, will be remembered around the country Saturday.

Locally, the Nomad Collective Art Gallery in the Elysian Valley will host an evening devoted to Yauch, also known as MCA, Saturday.

According to organizers, it will feature videos, two Beastie Boy cover bands and a candlelight vigil at midnight.

Photographer Sunny Bak's photos of the band during its early days of international prominence will also be on display.

Yauch and his bandmates have history in the area around Los Feliz and Silver Lake. As we reported last year, the band recorded its 1992 Check Your Head in a second-floor studio just off Glendale Boulevard in Atwater Village.

The event is free and open to all ages. Funds raised will go to the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Nomad Collective Art Compound located at 1993 Blake Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90039.
