Author Janet Fitch Laments Her Lost Silver Lake Eucalyptus

The giant tree toppled in the wind.

Silver Lake resident Janet Fitch is best known for her novels.

Paint It Black and White Oleander were both set in the area, though at different time periods.

Then, on Wednesday, L.A. Observed and the EastsiderLA brought us word Fitch had penned a poem in honor of a favorite Eucalyptus tree downed in last week's storm.

You can read that poem here.

Fitch also gave us permission to reprint a picture of the big guy and someone hard at work to remove it.

You can see that picture above.

Fitch is in good company as a lover of Eucalyptus trees.

Venice of California founder Abbott Kinney wrote a book about them and named his first stab at resort managment Ocean Park, after a grove along the Santa Monica shore.

Got your own picture of a downed tree you'll miss?
