Five Things: Olin & The Moon on Echo Park

Keeping the Golden Coast torch aflame, we catch up with Olin & The Moon as they discuss their neighborhood, Echo Park.

Olin & The Moon are set to gig with Henry Wolfe at The Bootleg Theater on June 13th. That being so, we asked the guys to run down some of their favorite spots in the neigborhood before they leave town on tour. (The tour kicks off with Open Boarders in Thousand Oaks on June 16th.)

The band is presently working on a new LP with plans to begin recording after their summer tour. Below, in their own words, is Olin & The Moon on Echo Park.

: This is the musical colony of the east. You're just as likely to see your neighbor as you are Weezer or Conor Oberst. There's a secret ice cold refreshment in the vending machine, and you can get everything you don't wanna go to Guitar Center for. We put in endless hours of hang time and rehearsals here. It's the Olin Home base.

: This is the place to grab all your vinyl fixin's. Kyle our bass player just picked up three records for $25! The dudes over there are really cool, and a lot of awesome bands play shows up in the loft. It smells like rose petals and rock. We actually played an in-store performance there once and had a blast. Also you can grab a slice of pizza right next door if you get hungry searching for tunes.

: The Echo is basically our home base venue and is great place to watch bands that make you feel like you need to go practice. They have really great quality control when it comes to the bands that pass through. Plus they have a green room upstairs which usually contains a case of stage pops on ice. And they let you take home the pallet of water at the end of the night. Another cool thing about The Echo is that there is a giant parking lot right around the corner, so if you are packing shows no one has to worry about parking. The talent buyer, , is really cool and definitely has a great ear for music. Go see shows at The Echo!

: We occasionally mosey on into this place at any hour of the day and grab a Gold Room Special. A shot of tequila and beer for $4--it's a steal. Also the domestic beer is always cheap and cold. It gets a little crowded on some nights, but if you have a few of the Gold Room Specials, you'll be feeling just fine.

: Best place to get coffee the morning after having too many Gold Room specials. Also, if you're in to reading books, they have those there.
