'Eastsiders': A Sunset Junction Triangle

Local, award-winning playwright unveils a new gay comedy web series.

If the loud noise heard over the reality series “K-Town” is the sound of doors opening up for a national appetite for neighborhood LA tales, then coming right through is Kit Williamson’s “Eastsiders”, a fictional drama starring himself as Cal and revolves around the fragile relationship with his boyfriend Thom, played by As The World Turns’ Van Hansis.

Premiering on December 14th online, the debut episode will get its soft opening at Akbar Wednesday night at 8pm.

Developed rather quickly over the course of a year, Williamson handles the trifecta of writing, directing and starring in the lead role, all while chasing down his grad school credits at UCLA.

We asked Williamson some local-centric spots where he likes to work, where he likes to eat, and where he likes to shop around here….

WRITING IN FIRST PERSON: “I love to write at Stories”, Williamson says. “I have a lot of used bookstore nostalgia from my teenage years and between the old books and the coffee it smells unbelievable in there.

WAKEY WAKEY, BEER AND BREAKIE: “I really like to get breakfast at Local, the staff there is really cool and I can walk there from my place,” recommends Williamson before offering up another selection. “I love having a beer at Mohawk Bend – they have the most amazing beer selection and the bartenders know so much about them that they could open a beer school.”

FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS: “My favorite store to browse through in the junction is Reform School and if I ever need a present for my sister I pay a visit to Sarah at Pull My Daisy or Whitney at Myrtle.” By chance, its all connected to his work. “I actually shot an episode of another local Web Series in Myrtle called "Hipsterhood," which was featured on Huffington Post and is coming back for a second season.”
